About CMCM

Can one grieve the loss of a blog?  Unfortunately I can now answer that question based on experience.

Some of you may have known C’est Moi Political Blog quite well throughout the last 6 years or so, and some of you may be seeing only the new C’est Moi now, but what was CM Political Blog was lost.

It started as a technical snafu with the host about 2 months ago.  Call after call to the hosting company yielded promises to resolve the issue and have the site restored in 24-48 hours; then 48- 72 hours; then “we’re doing the best we can”; and finally led to the admission that while the right hand didn’t know what the left hand was doing, the files were irretrievably removed from their server as though it were no longer an active account.  I know what that means and there was nothing that could be done.

I, years ago, lost the last full backup I had.  Since then I hadn’t found a tool adequate to fully back up the blog and unfortunately the back-up facility through my host never worked without timing out prior to completing the task.  I would grumble at these few attempts and let it drift right out of my brain thinking, “no big deal, I’ll get it backed up another time”.

The hosting company is still doing what it can to make reparations and even though it was a monumental mistake, I give them credit for recognizing the loss and their mistake.

That brings us to now.  Prior to the demise of the original C’est Moi Political Blog, I  had not done much updating since President Obama was elected.  When the election was over I felt like I needed a very long vacation with no cable news, canvassing, debates, rallies, polls, pundits, or prognosticators.  When the day came that I pensively turned on MSNBC again, I was immediately struck by the realization that our political discourse remains petty, and childlike, and hopelessly distanced from a grown up world with weighty issues requiring the best and most determined minds.

You will find me discussing our politics of the moment when I can bear to.  You will also find here discussions on a variety of topics that I hope will engage and interest readers.

Welcome the new C’est Moi Citizen Media!
